Safety and Security Coordinator

Steven Johnson is the Safety and Security Coordinator for Marana Unified School District, where he oversees the district's security protocol and procedures, and provides ongoing safety training with students and staff throughout the school year.

Mr. Johnson has 47+ years of public service, retiring from the United States Air Force and Marana Police Department. During his time in the Air Force as a police officer, he was a patrol supervisor, trainer, and resource protection manager. As a Marana Police officer, he was responsible for several programs; School Resource Officers, Recruiting/Background Investigations, Internal Affairs, Training, the Crime Scene Unit, Special Events, Community Outreach, and others. He also oversaw the Town’s Emergency Management/Homeland Security department where he was responsible for all hazards planning and response to critical incidents, which could affect the Town and surrounding area. Mr. Johnson is certified in several areas including physical security; Threat Vulnerability Assessments, Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO),; Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CEPTED), the Incident Command System, and more.
