School Resource Officers
Placing law enforcement on school grounds contributes to safe school environments conducive to teaching and learning. Their presence enhances and supports existing school safety efforts as officers collaborate with school and district administration to enhance a safe learning environment.
The Marana Unified School District is proud to have School Resource Officers (SRO) and School Safety Officers (SSO) on school campuses, who help create and maintain safe and supportive learning environments. School Resource and Safety Officers have high visibility on their campuses and help foster positive relationships between students, staff, families, and the community.
The SRO and SSO positions are provided through external funding and in collaboration with state and local agencies. Funding and support is provided by the Arizona Department of Education School Safety Program and local law enforcement partners including the Marana Police Department and Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Currently, SROs and SSOs are located at all MUSD secondary schools, excluding the new Tangerine Farms K-8, which was ineligible for funding at the time safety grants were submitted. In the Spring 2026, MUSD will apply for funding for the position.
